What We're All about

Thank you for taking a moment to get to know your instructors. ISR is a swim program dedicated to reaching as many families as possible with life-saving aquatic skills. ISR Kentucky Aquatics, previously known as ISR Lexington, has been serving the families of the Bluegrass with drowning prevention self-rescue and recreational swim instruction since 2016.

While drowning prevention is the heartbeat of why we do what we do, we are passionate about your child’s well-being as a whole. ISR provides a thorough registration process that gives each instructor the tools to provide your child with the best lessons possible, giving us the capability to work with children on varying spectrums from SPD, autism, down syndrome, and more. Cheri Slay - ISR Kentucky Aquatics

Mrs. Cheri

Owner of ISR Kentucky Aquatics
Infant Swimming Resource instructor, CPR, and AED certified

Before joining ISR, I had a background as a competitive swimmer before transitioning into teaching traditional swim instruction. I have had the pleasure of working with students of all ages and skill levels — my youngest student being 6 months and my oldest being 82. My background, swimming competitively and teaching traditional lessons for 7 years, gave me a foundation  in aquatics that has proved invaluable to my growth as an ISR instructor.

After years in traditional aquatics, I couldn’t ignore the reality that drowning affects so many families nationwide. I knew if I was going to continue to give children the love of water, I had the responsibility to teach them also to survive the water. I became a Certified Infant Swim Instructor with a passion to make a lasting difference for the children in my community, by giving them the potentially life-saving skills, and competence and confidence to be aquatic problem solvers. I consider it pure joy and an incredible blessing to give these children the gift of a lifetime. I love meeting new people, educating others about the program and watching students develop the confidence in themselves as swimmers.

As an ISR swim parent herself, who’s oldest child has gone through the program, Rachel knows firsthand how invaluable it is to have peace of mind with children knowing life saving skills when it comes to the water. ⠀

At a very early age, Rachel experienced firsthand the importance of water safety. When she was eight, she pulled her two year old brother from the pool. Thankfully, he was only under water for a short amount of time but she remembers his fall being silent. Her mother and aunt were supervising but hadn’t noticed.  Rachel remembers seeing his red shorts in the water and went in after him. She says she didn’t realize the gravity of the situation at the time but thinks about it often as an adult. ⠀

Teaching children has always been a passion of hers, making the role of ISR instructor a perfect fit! She has a background in early childhood education working with kids from infancy to preschool, as well as Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education college coursework.

We consider it pure joy and an incredible blessing to give these children the gift of a lifetime. We love meeting new people, educating others about the program and watching students develop the confidence in themselves as swimmers. We look forward to teaching your child and working together to assure that “not one more child drowns!”

Blessings,
The ISR Kentucky Aquatics Family
